The Last in Line...

1942-2010

Over the weekend a Metal Legend passed away.  Ronnie James Dio died Sunday morning from the effects of stomach cancer.  He was 67. Now, for those of you who weren't familiar with Ronnie’s work, here are a couple of notables.

1975-1978 Dio was the original lead singer of Rainbow.  Their biggest song was Man on a Silver Mountain.

1978-1982 Dio replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath. Some still argue to this day that Dio was the better singer.

1983 Dio went solo.  Songs like Holy Diver, Last in Line, Rainbow in the Dark sent him on a what seemed to be a never-ending head banging journey 'til coming off the road last summer.

Dio was also hailed as the man behind popularizing the "devil's horns" (\m/)hand gesture in metal culture.

Actually, that's just a small sample of what Dio did for music.  I was and still am a fan of his music and truly sadden by his death.  He will be missed.  R.I.P.

Message from Wendy Dio
Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.
