Rock 'n Roll Ghost Stories

Why doesn't this ever happen on Ghost Hunters?

More Ghost stories are told around Halloween than any other time of the year, well at least that’s my guess.  Still, with TV shows like Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters, Ghost Whisperer, Celebrity Ghost Stories and so fourth, it’s hard not to get caught up in them.  I poked around the web to find some Rock ‘n Roll Ghost Stories, and maybe it will help set the mood for JACK-fm Halloween Week

Sammy Hagar (Montrose, Van Halen, Chicken Foot)
One night when Sammy was about 20 years old in San Francisco, while lying in bed he heard someone loudly knocking on the door.  When he went to see who was at the door, he was shocked to see it was his estranged father.  He appeared to have been drinking and having a good time.  Since their current relationship wasn’t on best terms, Sammy ended up kicking his dad out fearing he’d wake everyone up.  A few minutes later there was another knock at the door.  This time it was Sammy’s band mates letting him know that his sister had just called, revealed that they just found his father dead under a park bench in Southern California.

Belinda Carlisle (Go-Go's)
She thinks all of her homes in London and America are haunted.  She’s apparently seen a misty dark figure in her presents a couple times.  She also claims of being shocked and choked as a child in her parent’s home by apparition.

James Valentine (Maroon 5)
He claims to have seen a figure walking up the stairs of a house where he and the band were recording the album “it won’t be soon before long.”  After calling out whoever was on the stairs and following it into a room, he discovered that no one was there.  The house in question was of famed music producer Rick Rubin.

Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters)
Dave recently stated that he believes his Seattle home is haunted by the ghost of Native American women.  His assumptions arrived from one night he and his wife Jennifer were dabbling around with a Ouija board.  The word ‘Murdered’ was spelled out after asking the board what happened in the home.  Later after doing research on the home, they found out a Native American baby was murdered there in the late 19th century by its mother and buried in a well.  It is said the murderous mother is haunting the house and grounds waiting for her child to have a proper burial.

Sting (Police)
He swears supernatural Roman centurions walked the rooms of his childhood home in Station Road, Newcastle, England.  He even called in paranormal researchers to investigate his home for Ghosts.

John Entwhistle (The Who)
The late John Entwhistle was totally convinced he had supernatural help from a spectre while he was creating the album for a now defunct American TV show called Van-Pires.  He’s certain a “friendly” spirit helped him find lost Keith Moon recordings.

Alice Cooper
While unpacking his clothes in a farm house in upper New York to do some songwriting with Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Alice got called away to another room.  Upon returning to finish putting his clothes away he noticed that the closet doors had all been closed, along with all the dresser drawers.  The following night he and Joe were eating dinner, while sounds of furniture being moved around in the basement, at that point they both questioned if  they were the only ones in the house.  Joe also stated that every time he came back to a room to pick up his jacket where he’d last placed it….it would be gone.  By the way, the house they were in was the same house Jay Anson wrote The Amityville Horror.

And now some alleged hauntings by deceased Artists themselves...

Zevon Ghost
In the ‘20’s it was an old speakeasy, today it’s a recording studio built by Slash of Guns ‘n Roses.  Artists like The Ventures, Velvet Revolver and Warren Zevon amongst others have played there.  Now a day’s Billy Bob Thornton owns the place and claims the spirit of Warren Zevon still haunts the grounds.

Mama Cass Ghost
Dan Aykroyd (SNL, Ghostbusters, etc) has gone on record to say his is convinced he has been sleeping with ghost of Mama Cass Elliot (The Mamas & The Papas).  The house was once owned by Cass, where Aykroyd claims the spirit has nuzzled up with him in bed on several occasions.

Freddie Mercury Ghost
Superfan Melinda Richamond claims she has had Freddie Mercury’s ghost to help her in a real life version of the movie Ghost.  She’s even gone to psychics to prove this to be true.

John Lennon’s Ghost
While recoding the ‘Free as a Bird’ album in 1995, which featured John Lennon’s voice, Paul McCartney claims to have John Lennon’s mischievous spirit poking around in the studio.  He has stated that a lot of strange happening took place in the studio, such as noises that shouldn’t have been there, and equipment doing weird things.

Oh, and just before posting this, I ran across a book with similar stories that comes out tomorrow. Coming soon, local ghost stories from around the Middle Tennessee area.

JACK-fm Haloween Week Songs- 'Zavelow House' by Will Owsley

Hey Jack, Here is one song missing from the JACK-fm Halloween Week Playlist: 'Zavelow House' by Will Owsley on his 1999 album 'OWSLEY'. It's is one of the best ghost story songs ever recorded about a real house that existed in Anniston, Alabama. The song was featured on the TV Series "Charmed".

Lyrics:
ZAVELOW HOUSE - Will Owsley (1966 -2010)
There's a house down on the corner
That we always used to talk about
Never had the guts to go inside
Not even on a dare
Boarded up and creepy
Scary eyes looked out upon a sleepy town
Fascination kept us guessin'
Why the sign read to Beware

We always knew just what would hit the fan
If we got an up-close look at the boogieman
Shadows on the wall
Voices in the hall
Therehttp://www.forever-charmed.com/'s more than just a mouse
In the Zavelow house

I could look inside the window
If I jumped upon my trampoline
Coulda sworn I saw Hannibal Lechter
With a hatchet and a head
Not the kind of place
You'd see in Better Homes and Gardens magazine
Unless they did an expose
On the night of the living dead

But with a pretty girl to hold my hand
Coulda got an up-close look at the boogieman.
